There are a number of islands dotted along the coastline of the Forth estuary.
Those viewed from the East Lothian shoreline include the Bass Rock, home to the largest Northern Gannet colony in the world. Fidra seen clearly from Yellowcraig beach, complete with lighthouse it is rumoured to be the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevensonís Treasure Island. The Lamb a small island of the coast of North Berwick is flanked by two smaller skerries, and Craigleith is home to a large population of Puffins. Further towards Fife is the Isle of May managed by Scottish Natural Heritage as a National Nature Reserve. Boat trips to see the islands including landing on the Bass Rock can be booked at the Scottish Seabird Centre.
